EPA Praises e-Stewards for the First Time

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just released a new report praising BAN's e-Stewards Program for "helping to improve the responsible management of used electronics in the United States."

e-Stewards certifies recyclers to the socially and environmentally responsible e-Stewards Standard.

The report, called the Implementation Study of the Electronics Recycling Standards: R2 and e-Stewards, summarizes numerous audit observations and stakeholder interviews. It positively reviewed both our e-Stewards Standard, and R2, another recycling standard, but didn't compare the different requirements of each.

We're very pleased to get high marks for implementing e-Stewards, a certification that goes above and beyond US law. The e-Stewards Standard respects the consensus of countries across the globe to ban the export of e-waste from more developed to less developed countries, by including the UN Basel Convention's Ban Amendment in its criteria.
