This Thanksgiving, Don't Buy - Give
/#GivingTuesday is a global movement of people excited to give back to their communities. On Tuesday, December 1 (the first Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving), millions around the world will donate their time and their money to help their favorite charity.
Here in the U.S., Thanksgiving is followed by Black Friday, the first official day of holiday shopping with super sales. It’s called Black Friday because on this day, many stores go from red to black – from losing money to making money – in profits from sales.
(Of course, Buy Nothing Day runs concurrently with Black Friday, as a way of protest against consumerism, which we think is pretty cool).
Ten years ago, Cyber Monday hopped on the bandwagon with online deals for those who want to skip the lines and shop at home.
And now, a new day following Thanksgiving is gaining popularity: #GivingTuesday.
To us at BAN, #GivingTuesday is very different. #GivingTuesday is all about harnessing the excitement of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and channeling it back to the spirit of the season – giving. #GivingTuesday is about being grateful for what you have and for helping those less fortunate.
And so, BAN is excited to join thousands of other charities and donors – people just like you – in celebrating #GivingTuesday. As part of our newly-launched BAN Together fundraising campaign, our goal is to raise $1,000 on #GivingTuesday.
This #GivingTuesday, we hope you’ll join us in giving. Mark your calendar, spread the word (especially on Facebook and Twitter!), and give generously.
